Newcastle Family Support Services (NFSS)
Newcastle Family Support Services has a vision of families flourishing in just and strong communities. They contribute to this vision by providing services which promote the well-being of individuals, families and communities. They do this through the provision of services to families with children, who are experiencing ongoing hardship.
The services include:
- Counselling and individual assistance either in the home or at a centre;
- Therapeutic group programs with associated child development activities;
- Supported playtime activities;
- Community work;
- Providing a family centre service with a therapeautic and community building focus.
They aim to work in ways that are mutually beneficial to families, staff and the whole community and that encourage participation of families and staff in decision making. Their work is built on a strong justice foundation and includes action for a fair go for all families.
Some of the projects and groups they provide are:
- Family Support Project
- Family Relationships Skills Project
- Playtime Plus
- Men and Family Relationships Project
- Koti Bula Umullan Project (provides a range of services to Aboriginal families caring for children in the Newcastle/Lake Macquarie areas.)
- Heading Up Together (For families who are acring for young people under 18 where a fanily member experiences mental health issues.)
- Staying Home Leaving Violence Project (For women leaving violence but wanting to stay in their home.)
